Shopping Cart Software Payments Revisited
A few weeks ago I wrote a post on the importance of offering multiple payment options within an eCommerce store front. Certainly it’s the job of the shopping cart software solution provider to facilitate the option for merchants to provide a multiple payment environment to their customers. When it comes to eCommerce payments, two giants stick out. PayPal is owned by eBay and Google Checkout which obviously are owned by Google. Several months ago I was uncertain where Google payments was going to end up. My reason was because it was competing against a company that has proven itself to a base of loyal customers.
The developers at WebCart were quick to incorporate Google payments in to the shopping cart system, but since then little has been heard around here about Google payments. Recently a client of my phoned me to announce that Google was offering “amazing” promotions for merchants who signed up for their service. Perhaps, Google is desperate for merchants, but I saw a more compelling reason to sign up. Besides for offering yet another payment option, Google payments will list you in their directory of shops as an online retailer that accepts Google Checkout. Although this is not proven in any literature I have found, but I am sure having a link from Google’s shopping directory to your home pages adds significant value to your business.
